Financial Aid is Yours For the Taking

Financial aid is available in many forms for college students. The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) form is perhaps the most commonly submitted application for financial aid in the U.S. Filling out the FAFSA form is the first step students should take in the process of seeking funds to aid in paying for college education. The college financial aid office is where students can acquire information and application forms, whether federal, state, school, or other supporting organizations.

Before filling out an FAFSA form to apply for financial aid, it is advisable to read all instructions carefully and have tax returns completed so as to avoid delays in the process. Students should answer all required questions and apply early! The U.S. Department of Education processes all FAFSA applications, which must be received on or before posted deadline dates, with all information correct and complete for students to be considered for federal financial aid.

State and school deadlines will vary, though they are often scheduled early in the school year. Checking early with state and schools to learn exact deadlines is wise.

Tax returns are an important component of financial aid applications; completing and filing tax returns prior to filling out the FAFSA will make the entire process simpler and more timely. Filing the FAFSA electronically online is fast and accurate. Institutions and states use the FAFSA application form to evaluate financial aid needs. Students should check with their (high) schools, state agencies, and financial aid offices at the intended colleges to learn if additional forms are required.

Answering all questions will help reviewers determine eligibility for federal student aid.
States and schools listed on application forms determine eligibility for school and/or state financial aid.

Federal financial aid is received by the college to cover expenses, which include tuition, room and board (if applicable), and other required fees, and pass on any remaining funds to the student to use for other school expenses, books, etc. ..... Read More

Students must take care to avoid scamming operations! Organizations that charge fees for financial aid applications, or offer to locate sources of income to pay for school, are to be examined very carefully. Though some are legitimate services, others are not. Help with any questions or forms can be handled by school personnel and the U.S. Department of Education.
